October 20, 2015: A day that will go down in the One Direction history books. A new music video, their first ever show cancellation, the world turning upside down in worry over Liam’s well being, and a surprise EP with a Big Payno Remix, a stripped down version of Perfect and a new song that won’t be on the album?? I dare you to say that three times fast.
It’s no secret that 2015 has been a rollercoaster of a year for the 1D fandom. Yesterday, it felt like all of the ups and downs of the year thus far were all multiplied and crammed into one day. In the end, though, we found Home.
Starting the day, the Trendom offices were calm. In fact, one of the staff members casually mentioned how they felt like they could finally rest easy now that Perfect was released (not in the middle of the night as a surprise) and we had a confirmed album drop date. WRONG. She was so wrong.
The Video Teasers
All of a sudden, Twitter blew up with teaser photos from the Perfect music video. Black and white shots no less. Was this going to be a black and white video!? Who put Harry in charge?
The commotion and anticipation over the upcoming music video quickly turned into shock, fear and panic when news hit that the night’s OTRA show in Belfast was being suddenly cancelled as Liam Payne had fallen ill.

Naturally, the fandom lost their sh*t. This was the first show cancellation in their five years as a band. Members of the group have notably stuck with the motto “the show must go on” through colds, the flu (the man-flu? Looking at you, Niall Horan.) and even broken bones (Liam, Niall, Harry… I’m sensing a pattern here…) The fandom blew up into a frenzy of worry over poor Payno, fearing the worst. Luckily, since then, we’ve learned that Liam is on a speedy road to recovery and the Belfast shows will continue on as planned, with a new show date added to make up for the cancellation.
Tonight and tomorrow night's One Direction concerts in Belfast will be going ahead as planned. Liam thanks (cont) https://t.co/DSczjYqrkw
Still in the midst of anxious worry, Directioners around the world were snapped back into new music video mode when Louis Tomlinson tweeted the link to the Vevo video.
The Perfect Music Video
Chaos ensued… again… for the third time in one day… yeah, we’re a special bunch. Immediate reactions around the Trendom offices included tears, screams and someone yelling out “Holy Shitballs”. We were fortunate no fires were started. Here’s why:
We got a glimpse into just how messy Louis really is…
Then this zoom in on Niall happened and BE STILL OUR HEARTS (EXCEPT OUR HEARTS WOULDN’T STILL. THEY ARE POUNDING SO LOUDLY.)
We got Liam singing softly as he looked into our eyes #swoon
Who told him that little strand of hair was okay? Do we look okay? We are NOT okay!
Then he started mixing music in his hotel room? SOMEONE STOP THIS MAN.
Niall spent the day golfing in his hotel room (Of course he did. Is anyone here surprised?)
Harry suddenly realized he’d forgotten to pack enough kale to last him through the tour (or at least, that’s what we’re gonna say caused this dramatic zoom in moment)
That was also when a Trendom staff member yelled out “Holy Shitballs”
ZOOM IN ON LIAM ZOOM IN ON LIAM THIS IS NOT A DRILL
Then it got worse… Harry did a cute thing on a wall and our hearts all melted into puddles of joy.
Some things never change…
Then it got much worse… just as the verse of “and if you like causing trouble up in hotel rooms…” came on, Harry ripped the sheets from a bed as if he were ripping the bandaid holding the last pieces of our already melting hearts together…
HELLO FERNS. HELLO CALVIN KLEIN UNDERWEAR. HELLO SWEET SWEET DEATH.
What was next? Oh, you know… just Harry tossing aside his journal the way he tossed the shattered pieces of our heart, that’s what.
We got to sit in on a group meeting
(they have very important business meetings, according to Niall’s tweets, you know)
Niall showed Mark where he was going today… down the hallway with his biceps, that’s where.
That sounded funnier in our heads, we swear.
The arms. The shirt. The way he’s feeling the music. Send help.
Again, some things just never change…
We got a glimpse into Harry’s fashion decision making process…
and some pretty terrible dance moves…
and some role play?
Settle down, Sherlock Holmes meets Colonel Sanders, settled down there.
You know who didn’t settled down? LiLo.
Yep, they look like they’re about to cause some trouble.
Or maybe they just wanted to play some footie?
Nope, they were definitely up to trouble.
Lots of trouble.
Again, is anyone surprised here?
Meanwhile, low-key Netflix and Chill Harry finished his fashion session and lounged ever so pensively on a bed as little fish swam from him like thoughts from his over-burdened mind.
Then he started singing and putting things in our minds that we can never un-see.
Just gonna crawl up there beside him and stare, not creepily or anything…
Niall didn’t hold back on the creepy stare, however. Geez Niall, pull yourself together.
Wait was that Liam getting a tattoo?
WE CANNOT PULL OURSELVES TOGETHER
What the Perfect music video did (and did so well) was give us a glimpse into their lives on the road. No glitz and glam, but the every day routines; the things they do to occupy their time while they’re traveling to places they can’t even pronounce…
If you like causing trouble up in hotel rooms
And if you like having secret little rendezvous
If you like to do the things you know that we shouldn’t do
Baby, I’m perfect
Baby, I’m perfect for you
And if you like midnight driving with the windows down
And if you like going places we can’t even pronounce
If you like to do whatever you’ve been dreaming about
Baby, you’re perfect
Perhaps it’s not a member of the band talking to a love interest. Perhaps it’s an abstract voice from the lifestyle they lead on the road, speaking to them. Our hearts are both full and broken at the same time, how perfect are these lads?
Moving on in the day… Oh, what, you thought that’s where things ended? Ha! After a few hours of meltdown on Twitter and multiple (we’re talking MULTIPLE) replays of the Perfect music video, we were attempting to lay or tired heads to rest when BAM!
The Perfect EP
Last year, leaked copies of FOUR came out prior to the release date. Apparently, a store in Brazil had placed the albums on the shelves a tad too early. So when links to a Spotify tracklist for a previously unheard of Perfect EP started circulating after midnight in NYC, everyone started to worry. Where was that EP available? Yep, you guessed it. Brazil.
Was it a leak? Surely, if it’s on Spotify, it’s meant to be there. Should we listen? Most fans in the US couldn’t access the EP on Spotify. WHAT IS GOING ON!?!?!
Then, Louis Tomlinson (or “that little sh*t,” as he’s becoming known in the Trendom offices) tweeted to confirm that these songs were legit:
I THOUGHT WE WERE ON GOOD TERMS, LOUIS. Didn’t we discuss our need for normal sleep patterns??
At midnight tonight, local times, everyone will be able to get the Perfect EP and enjoy the glory that is HOME. Since the track won’t be on their upcoming album, Made In The A.M. we have a feeling there may be another fan project in the works to self-release it as a single.
