This week was full of lessons, the most important one being be yourself. As humans, we are wired to conform to society. We do what everyone else is doing and sometimes we forget to march to the sound of our own drums.
There was a video that popped up on my social media news feed that shocked me. I understand contouring is the new fad in cosmetics, but I didn’t realize contouring your WHOLE BODY was in?
I have a few questions… How do you have time to put MORE makeup on? Is buying all of this makeup burning a hole in your pocket? Doesn’t the makeup just run off by the middle of the day? Are you worried about this? What if you sweat? Why are people even doing this?
I understand people may not be satisfied with their bodies, leading them to contour it, but I’m here to tell you that no matter your shape or size, you’re beautiful! Be yourself, don’t hide your ENTIRE body behind makeup. Own it.
Being yourself is just as (if not more) beautiful. Sally Nixon realized this when she took on a 365 day art challenge. She began to paint pictures of women in an environment where they’re just themselves where no one is looking. Sally paints these women in many different scenarios and the end result is incredible— she really captured the unique essence of what being a woman is all about. Sadly, Thursday brought some devastating news to the world. One of the greatest musicians of our time had passed away. Prince was an icon and idol to many. He was a lyricist, a guitarist, but ultimately an artist. Prince shook up the music scene with sex, fashion, and mystery. His music touched many lives, one being my own, and his legacy will continue to carry on. One of the most important lessons that we could all learn from Prince is that it’s okay to be yourself; it doesn’t matter if you’re weird or cool— be unique. After all, “we are gathered here today to get through this thing called life.”
“Despite everything, no one can dictate who you are to other people.”
Embrace who you are and simply BE YOURSELF.
