Before there was Little Mix and Fifth Harmony, there was an amazing girl group that consisted of five beautiful British women. This powerhouse group made a movie and three amazing albums. They were the definition of girl power back in the 90’s. These lovely women were known as the Spice Girls.
The Spice Girls consisted of members Mel B (Scary Spice), Victoria Beckham (Posh Spice), Emma Bunton (Baby Spice), Melanie C (Sporty Spice), and Geri Halliwell (Ginger Spice). The Spice Girls formed backed in 1994, became a global phenomenon with their first single and worldwide hit “Wannabe” and took the motto of positive girl power to a whole new level. Which brings me to why it’s the song choice of the week.
This weeks song choice is titled “Wannabe” by Spice Girls
“Wannabe” is honestly such an amazing song. The song pretty much tells it how it is when it comes to any type of relationship. It explains the need for balance in relationships, between the couple world and friend world, and that you need to give and take.”If you wanna be my lover, you gotta get with my friends…” is my favorite lyric line from the whole song. They don’t literally mean get with their friends, more like if you don’t get along with my friends, then goodbye. Because, let’s be real, your friends will always be there for you.
They also had a LOT of fun with the “Wannabe” music video. It’s a classic Spice Girls video, a monumental 90’s video, and down right fun all around.
The Spice Girls’ three released albums are called Spice,Spiceworld, and Forever. All of these albums can be purchased on iTunes and listen on Spotify. I promise they are worth the listen if you haven’t already heard them.
