If Niall Horan is one of the biggest fans of James Bay, I’d have to say I come in a very close second. I was first introduced to James about a year ago on iTunes. His song ‘Let it Go’ was their single of the week, and it was a free download. If I’m going to be honest, the reason why I even decided to download the song was because it reminded me of the hit Disney film Frozen (yes, even I was part of the Frozen frenzy once upon a time). That download alone made me fall in love with James Bay, which is why this week’s song choice is ‘Let it Go’!
The moment I heard ‘Let it Go,’ I fell in love. The song was so easily relatable and it honestly reminded me of a previous relationship of mine. I’m sure that many of us have been in a relationship where it’s no longer the same at the end. Everything seems to be falling apart, and we don’t know why we’re still in the relationship. We know it’s time to let it go, and leave that part of our lives behind. The heartbreak that he’s singing about can easily be felt with these lyrics alone: “I used to recognize myself, it’s funny how reflections change. When we’re becoming something else, I think it’s time to walk away.”
The lyrics are not the only reason why this song is probably on repeat at least twice a week. His voice alone manages to pull me in and keep me there. He manages to show us what he’s feeling with his voice in each of his songs, and ‘Let it Go’ is a perfect example of that power he has.
Bay’s first studio released album Chaos and the Calm can be purchased on iTunes. You can also stream his amazing music on Spotify. His album is honestly worth a listen, and he’s going to leave you wanting more.
