Song of the Week: “Chasing Pavements” by Adele

In honor of Adele’s soon-to-be released album 25, and the release of her new single ‘Hello,’  I decided to take it back a couple years back to her first album 19. We all have been patiently waiting for 25 to be released, but none of us could ever forget her first album. 19 was Adele’s debut album, written when she was only 19 and released 7 years ago in in 2008. It garnered critical acclaim and she was nominated and subsequently won two Grammys – Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for ‘Chasing Pavements.’

Adele’s first single off of the album 19, ‘Chasing Pavements,’ was one of my favorite songs, which is why this song is this weeks song choice of the week!

This weeks song choice is titled “Chasing Pavements” by Adele

I’m sure we’ve all had that friend who we had feelings for, but we were never too sure on whether or not that individual felt the same way or whether or not we should continue chasing for that individual, even if we know it’s not going to lead anywhere. We reach that moment of thought about whether or not we should give up. We all hang on to that hope of us dating that person one day. The irony of this thought process is that the supposed inspiration for Adele to write this song finding out her boyfriend at the time of six months had cheated on her. This ballsy lady punched him in the face, and as she walked down the street, she thought to herself “what am I chasing?” Obviously, Adele is just a bad ass.

Here is a live version of “Chasing Pavements.” Adele’s voice is just incredible live, and I think we should all just fangirl about her amazingly talented song and voice.

19 and 21 can be purchased on iTunes or streamed on Spotify. 25 is available for pre-order and will be released on November 20.

Recent college graduate with a degree in theatre. I’m crazy about One Direction and Zayn Malik, and so in love with Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift. When I’m not fangirling, I like shopping, coffee and pretending I’m a princess in disguise.
