*Trender Morgan went to the 5SOS ROWYSO Atlanta Concert on August 5, 2015*
5 Seconds of Summer is known for their energetic concerts and awesome guitar/drum skills. So my soon-to-be roommate, Jade, and I decided to go support our favorite Aussies. Atlanta isn’t a far drive for us, so onward we trekked!
The drive to the concert was how you would expect it: rocking out with our socks out. We blasted 5 Seconds of Summer songs all the way there, making sure we were prepared for the concert, of course. We arrived in Atlanta six hours early in hopes we would find the boys, but turns out they didn’t stray from the venue because of their long drive the previous night. They needed rest! So we decided to roam around ATL for a little while, and we actually ended up meeting a huge 5SOS fan and famous Viner/Youtuber, Alex Ramos. Most of the girls who were there to meet him were also attending the concert, which was a plus.
We now had only a couple of hours before the gates would open at the venue. EEK! So we went back to the venue, parked the car, and made the longest journey around the parking lot to get to the entrance. On that long parking lot journey we could actually hear the boys sound checking! We purchased our merch, talked to some of the staff, and took our place in line (we got up to the very front!) Two hours in the sweltering heat waiting for the gates to open was absolutely horrendous, but was it worth it to see our fave Aussies? Oh hell yes! And FINALLY we were let in, but we weren’t sure the staff was prepared for 5SOS fans. They looked sort of shell-shocked. Oh well!
Our seats were at a very decent distance from the stage, so we talked to some fellow fans while we waited for Hey Violet to perform. That was my first time ever hearing their songs, and I loved them! Their cover of ‘Blank Space’ by Taylor Swift got everyone in the crowd roaring and dancing. So if you haven’t listened to any of their music yet and plan to attend a ROWYSO concert, definitely give them a listen. The wait for 5SOS was soon over… and BAM! There were the boys.
They opened up with ‘End Up Here’ (a personal fave) and the crowd was ballistic. The energy in the amphitheater was UNREAL. Everyone was there to support these boys who have worked so hard to get where they are now. Michael was ecstatic about our energy and asked us to “Make some f****** noise!!” And so we did. As a Luke girl, it was very hard to peel my eyes away from him to enjoy the other boys, but they were all giving a great performance.
Here’s some sassy Michael for you before Permanent Vacation.. enjoy.
It finally came to the point in the concert where Michael brought up a fan to teach them a few guitar chords during the middle of ‘Rejects.’ To his surprise, the girl he brought up is actually in a band and could play really well! Let’s just say Michael was very impressed. Luke was so impressed that he gave her a hug (super jealous of that.)
As the concert progressed, the heat got worse. Even though there were large fans in the top of the amphitheater, we were all sweating and having a great time. Poor Calum sweated through almost his entire shirt, and Michael found it to be the funniest thing. Aw, poor Calum.
After Michael’s sweaty Calum fascination, they started to play Amnesia. Let’s just say it took every ounce of me not to cry at the sound of Luke’s voice. Calum actually took a moment to let us sing and had the biggest smile on his face when he heard how loud we were. ‘Beside You,’ the next song on the setlist, was even worse for my already unstable fangirl soul. As most fangirls would say: I just can’t.
After our little sad moments, we got right back into the swing of things and witnessed a cute little Muke moment. Michael said that he “says stupid things” but Luke immediately replies “That’s my fave bit.” Thank you for the feels, Muke.
Atlanta also received their own personal song, with the boys chanting “Atlanta! Atlanta! Atlanta!” Oh yes, we felt special. The boys also played their newest single, She’s Kinda Hot, and the crowd was singing along perfectly. The single has had SO much success.
The show was almost over, and the boys came back for the encore of ‘Good Girls’ and ‘What I Like About You.’ Talk about even MORE energy! The crowd was so energetic, and you could just tell the boys were having the best time. We were sad to see them go, but they gave a terrific performance. Now I know why the tour is called ROWYSO…
So after it was all said and done, we waved goodbye to the boys on their tour bus and began to head back home. The entire day flew by because we were having so much fun, and it still hasn’t sunk in that I got to see Lucas Robert Hemmings in real life for the third time. 5SOS, you made my summer, and I’m definitely going to attend the next tour.
I leave you with a happy, sing-song Luke as well as a sexually frustrating Luke. God, I love him. Even though he hurts my heart (and lady parts.)
