#MCM: Shawn Mendes

If you’re an avid Trendom reader. then you might have read about Rae’s new found love for him or Samantha’s review on his debut album. If you went to Taylor Swift’s 1989 tour this summer, you may have seen him singing his heart out before the queen herself came on. Even though he’s not quite old enough to even buy a lottery ticket, this Canadian slowly taking the world by storm. My #mcm this week is the incredible Shawn Mendes.

At 17, Shawn is one of the youngest musicians in the industry. He posted a cover of himself covering Justin Bieber’s “As Long As You Love Me”  to Vine, and had more than 10,000 followers the next day.

He began posting more Vines, covering artists such Sam Smith and Ed Sheeran, and subsequently became a part of the MagCon Tour, with fellow Viners Nash Grier and Cameron Dallas. Andrew Gertler from Island Records discovered him in 2014, and brought him to his label, where he signed a record deal.

His first single, ‘Something Big’, was released in June 2014.

It charted at #24 on the Billboard Hot 100, making him youngest artist to debut in the top 25 with a debut song. He was just shy of 16 years old. “Handwritten”, his first full-length album, appeared at #1, and ‘Stitches’, his third single, is about to become his first #1 on a Billboard radio airplay chart. How many other people do you know who have two Billboard top 25 songs and a #1 album before they’re old enough to vote?

OH and did I mention he opened for one of the biggest pop stars in the world?

Happy birthday @taylorswift ! You are incredible and i can't wait for tour ! ❤️😊 #20DaysOfSomethingBig

She got the crowd to sing Happy Birthday to him!

He is a self-proclaimed #Directioner,

(@xharoldsvojce_ :are you a directioner? admit it)

and did an AMAZING cover of “Drag Me Down”.

He is so humble and truly loves his fans.

The most beautiful night of my life. Thank you all so much ❤️

He teamed up with Pencils of Promise and sold limited-edition sweatshirts, hoodies, and t-shirts, with the proceeds going towards building a school in a developing country.

Shawn’s goal was to raise $25,000 to build one school, and he raised 163% of that goal.

He pushes himself to work out and stay healthy, and it definitely shows.

Also, and I think Rae would agree with me here, he is very nice to look at.

something big

Thank you Shawn, for sharing yourself with the world.

I’m a Swiftie, Directioner, Sheerio, 5SOS fam member, you name an artist, I’m probably a fan! What I lack in height I make up for with my love of music and somewhat unhealthy amount of sass. I look forward to spreading laughter and discovering what is waiting for me in this breathtaking world!
