You may know David Guetta from his most popular singles, including ‘Hey Mama’ with Nicki Minaj, ‘Titanium’ with Sia, and ‘Without You’ with Usher, but did you know he’s been DJing since 1984?
Pierre David Guetta, who opted to drop his first name for fame, was born in France, where he began DJing in 1984. He initially played pop music before discovering house music and getting more into the DJ scene. During the ’90s, he played in multiple clubs across Paris, releasing a few singles that became popular in the club scene.
In 2001, David Guetta founded Gum Productions and put out ‘Just a Little More Love,’ his first hit single; his album of the same name came out the next year on Virgin Records label. He released two more albums between 2004 and 2007, both charting successfully in the UK as well as in mainland Europe.
Fast forward a few years to 2009, when Guetta released One Love, his fourth studio album, and the album that rocketed him to international fame and recognition. The album was nominated for Best Electronic/Dance Album at the 52nd Grammy Awards, with multiple songs off the album receiving nominations as well.
In 2011, Guetta released Nothing But The Beat, his 5th studio album. Possibly his most popular album, it featured songs we all know and love: ‘Where Them Girls At’ featuring Flo Rida and Nicki Minaj, ‘Without You’ featuring Usher, ‘Titanium’ featuring Sia, and ‘Turn Me On’ with Nicki Minaj, to name a few. David Guetta has even created his own record label, Jack Back Records, with which he plans to focus on electronic music releases, rather than his usual dance pop productions.
In 2014, he released Listen, his 6th studio album. The album hit #1 on the Billboard’s US Dance/ Electronic chart, and features the voices of Nico & Vinz, The Script, Sia, John Legend, and, of course, Nicki Minaj. David Guetta has also written and produced for many artists, most notably for Rihanna’s Unapologetic and Lady Gaga’s Artpop.
