We all have those days that are so stressful that all we want to do is go home and curl up on the couch and cry. But, in this technology driven world, we often find ourselves on our phones and it’s certainly not uncommon that we end up on social media sites.
From personal experience I’ve realized that social media only makes me stress out more and makes me antsy. On most days, getting on social media completely defeats the purpose of trying to de-stress. If you’re really looking to de-stress, and you know you won’t be able to put your phone down, take a look at these apps that may help your mind (and body) relax.
This app is one of my personal favorites. You can turn on a nice, soothing, sound (rain, oscillating fan, waves, wind, plus many more to choose from) and listen to it as you lure yourself to sleep or to just relax in general. Need to take a 15 minute break from the world? Grab your headphones and let this app work its magic.
Take your mind off of what’s stressing you out and focus on a word search. I like this app in particular because it’s colorful rather than melancholy – vibrant colors can help lift your spirits up. Plus, this method of de-stressing will improve your mental agility at the same time!
Colorfy Coloring Book for Adults
Adult coloring books are actually becoming quite popular, simply for the reason that they help us relax. This app is perfect if you don’t have time to find a coloring book, colored pencils, or the actual time to sit down and physically color. This app gives you a full coloring kit that fits right in the palm of your hands.
Flow is a fun and simple game. Connect the matching colors with pipes, but make sure the entire board is covered. It’s not timed which doesn’t make your brain work up a sweat to finish the puzzle – rather, it calms your brain.
For only $2.99 you can take up yoga in your own home, on your own time, rather than spending upwards of $30 a month on yoga classes. Pick out a few poses you want to try and de-stress mind, body and soul!
Any Sudoku app will actually do – there’s no particular one that I personally favor. Challenge your brain, but don’t strain it. This is also another app that is perfect for getting your mind off of whatever it is that is stressing you out.
One of my favorite advances in technology is the ability to read a book on a phone or tablet. I hate having to lug around a book because I don’t have much space in my purse to keep it. Thanks to advances in technology we are now able to relax (and escape into another world) anywhere and everywhere! Wattpad is perfect, fangirl or not, because thousands of free books are at the touch of your fingertips. There are also several other apps to access books. Another one I like to use is iBooks. You can still find a few free books on iBooks, but you’ll find all of the best sellers and popular books there, unlike on Wattpad.
To help yourself de-stress even more, take a warm lavender bath (sans phone!) or dim the lights for a while as you go technology free. Calm your mind and have a better day tomorrow!
