A few weeks ago, I was invited to a concert featuring bands I’ve never heard of. I’ve been looking for new music to listen to so this was perfect. The second band up certainly caught my attention. I’m not sure if it was Nora’s sparkly shorts, or their cool sound, but I was immediately drawn in.
Royal Teeth is made up of five members. Nora Patterson is the free spirited front-woman, Gary Larsen is the lively guitarist and singer, Thomas Onebane is the confident guitarist, Joshua Wells is the amusing bassist, and Josh Hefner is the dynamic drummer.
Their music style is described as American Indie Pop, or as I like to say, “they sound so Coachella.” Although they haven’t performed at Coachella yet… they have performed at many other music festivals, one of the most popular ones being SXSW.
Royal Teeth has a fresh sound; if you like Smallpools, Echosmith, or The Summer Set, then you’re going to LOVE this band.
Royal Teeth have only released two albums as of now, Act Naturally (2012) and Glow (2013). In fact, you may have heard their most popular song, “Wild,” on many commercials and television shows like The Voice or 90210. They also just released their newest song, “Kid Conspire,” and it’s a jam.
Just this year, the band signed with a major record label, Elektra, so a new album is in the works.
Not only does this band know how to create fresh sounds, but they also know how to perform. When I saw them at The Ready Room in St. Louis, MO, I was blown away. The chemistry between Nora and Gary is inevitable. Actually, the chemistry between the entire band is illuminating. When you watch them on stage, you don’t have to wonder if they want to be there or not; they WANT to be there and that’s clear.
If you’re like me, and are always looking for a new band to listen to, give Royal Teeth a chance. You’re going to like what you hear, I promise.
You can stream their music on Spotify, or even buy their songs on iTunes.
