Let’s be honest, decorating with your fandom’s merchandise usually isn’t a very classy way to decorate. As a homeowner, I want my house to look like an adult’s house, but I also want to cover my walls with Harry Styles wallpaper (they need to make that). I have found that decorating with any fandom’s merchandise is hard, but I think I found a way to do it and have it looking like I can cook a meal and pay bills on time (both are debatable).
Here are some of the decorating tips I have learned while trying to make my house as 1DAF as possible:
Subtlety is key here. In order to establish a classy, grownup look, make sure your fandom love is subtle. The way to keep it subtle is to use things like lyrics, concert pics, or artsy pictures of your idols. On my main wall in my great room, I’m sitting here looking at 4 different ways that I have added One Direction lyrics to my wall. When people are 1DAF, they immediately notice the lyrics. If they’re just living life normally, unaware of the pain and joy that comes with loving One Direction, they just think the wall is cute. Here are some pics of my main wall and the 1D inspired decorations.
I love doing crafts. Pinterest can suck me into a black hole of DIY madness if I’m not careful. Making a canvas with some of your favorite lyrics is a great way to be creative and fangirl in your home decor. For instance, I used Harry’s signature saying “all the love” for this canvas.
I also decided that my refrigerator needed some spicing up; it also needed magnets. So I thought, why not combine magnets and One Direction and make 1DAF magnets?! It was the easiest thing I’ve ever done. First, since I’m still poor, I printed off some pictures at work. Then I went to Michael’s and got magnet paper. Then, I cut the pictures out, put them on the sticky side of the magnet paper and cut around the pictures. And there, you have 1DAF magnets!
I also love to keep it classy with some watercolor and lyrics.
Use Your Own Pictures.
Something that I think is vital to decorating your home subtly is to use your own pictures. Not only does it look more personal, it’s also really special. I have several pics around my house that are from concerts or edits that I’ve made with the help of friends, Ali. I used Social Prints to print off my Instagram pictures from my concerts! I love using my own pictures because it reminds me of great memories with great people.
I hope that these decorating tips can help you turn your home into a classy, yet 1DAF place.
23 and 1Daf with no shame. I can fangirl over pretty much anything and everyone around me knows it. Since becoming a fangirl of everything, my multitasking skills have gone through the roof because fangirling while at work takes special skills. (Currently writing this at work, shh don’t tell my boss) I’m hoping that through Trendom, I can bring some happiness, laughter, and distraction to you daily.
